Beyond austerity, where next for social Europe

The European Movement, the Labour Movement for Europe and Brussels Labour are organising a fringe event at the Labour Party Annual Conference 2011 entitled ‘Beyond austerity: Where next for Social Europe?’

The event will discuss the effects austerity measures adopted across Europe in the aftermath of the financial and sovereign debt crisis have on economic growth and the future sustainability to the European Social Model(s). Speakers will debate the alternatives that centre left parties can offer to the policies of public sector austerity adopted by right of centre governments in the EU. And will discuss how this European dimension should inform and be reflected in future Labour Party policies.

The discussion will feature presentations from:

Philip Cordery, General Secretary, Party of European Socialists

Linda McAvan MEP, Labour

- Billy Hayes, TUC Europe Spokesperson and CWU

David Schoibl, Labour Movement for Europe

Petros Fassoulas, European Movement UK

ChairNeil Kinnock

If you would like to attend please send an e-mail to info@em-il.org.uk. Entry is free of charge.
